Eddie Mc MillanEddie Mc MILLAN WAS BORN Nov25 ,1951 and was one of Tampa’s greatstudent athletes. McMillan attendedHOWARD W. Blake High School which was considered one of the elite academic and athletic school in the state of Florida.Mc Millanparticipatedin both Football and Track at Blake wherehe was All State in both sports.An outstanding sprinter and hurdler McMillan holds the school record in the 100 yd. dash(9.5),the 220 yd. dash (21.4) and the 180 yd. low hurdlers at (19.5). In the summer of 1968 McMillanqualified to compete in the National High SchoolTrack and Field Championships atHayward Field located on the campus of the University of Oregonand won the National Champion in the 180 yd. low hurdlers in a stunning time of (19.3) beating the best high school hurdlers in the country. After Mc Millan senior year at Blake High in 1969 he along with three other black student athletes was offered a full scholarship toattendFlorida State Universitybecoming the first blacks to play football at a predominantly white University in the State of Florida.They became known as ( The First Four)AND OPENED THE DOOR FOR OTHER BLACK ATHLETES IN THE FUTURE NOT ONLY AT Florida State ,BUT THROUGHOUT THE SOUTH). McMillan also broke the color barrier as the firstblack athlete to run track at Florida State and was the school recordholder at the time running a (9.3) in the 100 yd. dash.Aftercompleting his studies at Florida State he was drafted by the LA Rams an became an instant starter at Defensive Back and was voted to the ALL Rookie Teams as well as winning Defensive Rookie of the Year.McMillan went on to have a seven year NFL Careerwiththe La Rams, Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills. While playing for the Seahawks McMillan was the youngest captain of anNFL TEAM AT THE TIME.McMillan nowsemi -retired is the Co Owner of a Sports Marketing Company that works with current and former NFL players managing their personal appearances, speaking engagements and charity events.McMillan who now resides in Seattle Wa. Also work with schools on a Prevention Program to help kids address some of the issues and challengesof todays youth.McMillan feels its important to give back to the community and help teach about the real game( The Game of LIFE)
